Acceptable adjustments:
1. Cropping (when in doubt crop it out if it improves the aesthetic qualities)
2. Contrast and brightness adjustments within reasonable limitations (these are available to the traditional photographer in the darkroom)
3. Color balance within reasonable limitations (also available to darkroom printers)
4. Selective Dodge and Burn adjustments (also available to darkroom printers)
5. Dust and scratch retouching (also available to darkroom printers)
The bottom line is any reasonable option available to the traditional film photographer that improves the aesthetics but does not alter the integrity of the original scene. You know MINImal adjustments.
The not permitted category would include all of those special filters that alter the integrity of the original scene. Examples: solarization, cut and paste, distortions, artistic renderings and modifications that depart from the original scene. You know the flying pigs, swirls, starbursts, and rainbow category.
GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY MOTORING....uh...errrr.....SHOOTING
