First GoPro Hero video w/ MS3

Postby BillTheCat » Sun Oct 11, 2009 5:56 pm

Nothing fancy. Just mounted the camera in a few different spots to get a feel for the view & audio. Used the "Lo" audio setting, which is supposed to cut down on wind noise. I was just out & about, running errands, etc., so no real eye candy. Just a test run.

I took ours to Clearwater for our trip to the beach yesterday. Once I compile the clips, I'll post up. Also set to low volume, which all but muted it with the waterproof casing intact. It proved that Clearwater is anything but! The underwater shots were quite murky, but the camera case did as promised and kept the camera competely dry. Great for getting those shots that would normally be missed because I'd be protecting the camera rather than shooting video.

Very cool...I want one!
I love the way the blue sky and clouds reflect off the side of your car.

Yeah, and the car's not even clean. (Surprise)

As I watched some of the sky shots, I was singing to myself, "There's a little black spot on the sun todaaaaaaaaaayyyy..."

Cool Bill! Yeah, the reflections are really cool. Glad you guys are digging the cameras. I will have three with me on our trip Bill so with yours we will have four and will be able to do some cool stuff. I've noticed the black dot too and it's kinda weird.

I have another shipment of them on the way and my web store will be open soon. Per GoPro dealer rules I'm not allowed to advertise them below list price. So when you see them on my web store they'll appear to be $199 (list) but when you put one in your cart it's $149. :)

Jack, are you planning on carrying the HD version at any point? Not that I need another one right away, just being curious.

I made another test video today, this time on the interstate, just to show stability at, um... "higher" speeds. And I positioned the camera in a spot where it should pick up intake whoosh and bypass valve purge noise well. About to upload that video from the SD card to my PC, then I'll toss a quick YouTube edit up tonight or tomorrow.

Yes, I plan to carry the HD version but I'm working on getting them to do a drop ship since the cost is higher. I likely will buy one soon for some testing to see if it's worth the extra $$$.

Retail is an extra $100. Resolution is 1080p (30 fps) or 720p (60 fps).

I'd think it would be worth it. :) Woo, plus you get a lithium battery included.

Lithium battery would totally be worth the extra 100 bucks. That and 60 fps is pretty bad ass too. Can you say SLLLLOOOOOWWWWW MOOOOOOOOTION! \:D/

Hey guys, the firmware update for the cameras is here:

GoPro Firmware

This allows you to use 4 GB SD cards (and use the whole 4GB) and also improves exposures for bright situations (sand, snow, bright skies, etc.)

Instructions are on the page. I just did three cameras. Easy peasy. Just make sure you're using fresh batteries.

I just bought a bunch of Maha Powerex rechargeable batteries and will be using them at the Dragon this weekend so I'll let you know how that goes.

Cool, are they lithium or NiMH? I'm currently just using (I think) Energizer NiMH.

Thanks for the link to the firmware

The Maha Powerex batteries worked very well. I ran two cameras from the Solo station in Robbinsville across the Cherohala all the way to Tellico Plains and they were still running when we stopped for gas. We even stopped for about 10 minutes on the Cherohala and I left them running. So it was about an hour and 20 minutes total.

Any feedback on the Sanyo Eneloop batteries? I'm thinking about getting these for my DSLR.

Looks like I'll be getting the Maha PowerEx MH-C204W One Hour WorldWide Battery Charger sometime in the next few weeks. I really like many of its features, especially its automatic discharge / charge conditioning cycle.

Half a year later and I finally got the video posted. Originally it's playing "Surfin' Bird" by the Ramones, but Youtube stripped out the audio. Better than nothing I guess. At least it let me upload the video.
