Don't reuse the manifold flange gasket. They tend to burn out anyway.
I have cut the old one apart. I still have it. You will find (depending on header) that the old iron intake sits too close to the head and the center pipe of the header keeps it from seating properly. That's what happened to me. Save up, get a proper alloy intake.
Make sure the flanges on the intake manifold and exhaust manifold are the same thickness. I had to grind my intake flanges down in order to have the thick washers sit flat and apply even pressure to both intake & exhuast. Otherwise you end up with leaks and a burned out gasket rather quickly.

I have cut and separated them but you need two inlet/exhaust manifolds and it ain't for the faint hearted.
Lots of hacksaw blades etc.

He wants to install an aftermarket LCB or similar. The stock manifold doesn't allow enough clearance for the center downpipe...at least on the one I tried. Needed a proper alloy intake.

I remember it was a Mini Metro cast inlet/exhaust I cut the exhaust manifold and used a MG Metro inlet.
Ahh those were the days

Metro intake may work, but a Mini (at least the one I used) would not. Cut with an air cutoff tool.

While I have cut down a couple of the original cast iron intake manifolds from an 850, you are then stuck with a single 1 1/4" carb. I made it work with one of the old original "S" exhaust manifolds- never tried it with a LCB. No real benefit from the header with a single 1 1/4" carb.
A good used intake manifold will work great!
