SSM Daytona Beach bash

Postby fozzy » Thu Feb 02, 2006 7:59 am

Okay sunshiners, it's apparent that we do most our club functions on land but we have not ever had a beach day other than the Bahia Honda day during the Cannonball run. What better place to have a MINI/mini gathering than on the beautiful sands of Daytona Beach.

So here's my proposal. I am willing to help organize a beach picnic day for family and friends that we can all enjoy and get to know one another and display our cars.
Sorry gotta go! More later.

Can we BBQ on the beach? Maybe we can get a permit for a clambake. This really sounds like fun!

DAMM would love for this to happen, and it's already on our "to-do" list. One good option would be the park down at Ponce Inlet, they have a pretty big pavilion and grills, and you could park on the beach and walk up if you like. The lighthouse is right there, a nice place to check out for some incredible views of the area.

nfozzy - if you really want o help, get in touch with me and you can join in... but I just wanted you to know that an event like this is already on the horizon! 8)

Don't forget the park we used before when we did the SSM loop run. Was it the Gamble Rogers park? Can't remember, I'm sure somebody else does. It had a nice big area complete with grills and covered seating.

Yep. It was the Gamble Rogers State Park outside of Flagler. :)

OK sounds to me like the DAMM folks need to get off the stick & pick a date so we can move this out of "futures" and into "production". :)

I don't see why we couldn't bring some small propane hibachis and have a grill out. A clambake sounds like a splendid idea. ;)b

I know that some friends of mine had a party on the beach last spring right down by the Inlet, and there was at least one grill. It was fairly well hidden from view by all the *ahem* LARGE vehicles that were there, and I recall the only trouble we had from the law was being asked to move the cars that were double parked... like it mattered since all of the cars were there for the party anyway... what can you do?

It might be possible, but could present a risk if it's not allowed... OK I just checked one source http://volusia.org/beach/beach3.htm and saw no mention of rules against using a grill... but this plan will lose the vote of at least one person *cough* James *cough* since alcohol and glass containers are prohibited... [-X

My first choice is the Ponce Inlet Jetty park, by the lighthouse http://volusia.org/parks/lighthouse.htm)
And there is another park that might be doable... Frank Rendon Park (http://volusia.org/parks/rendon.htm)

So there you have it... the first steps taken by DAMM to make this happen... it's not likely that we will be partying directly on the beach if there can't be beer, so now we'll look at the rules at the parks that are available. We just have to gather for an official DAMM meeting to discuss a location and pick a date to throw out there to all of you. More news will be posted soon! :D

Here are some of my photos from the lighthouse area, for those that haven't been there, you gotta go!

I can't believe it took me so long to see this thread, looks like we're on Minvader, drop me a pm and I'll help out with the planning, I'm thinking third unoffical meeting. I could probably scout out these parks in the next few days. I think the hardest part is picking a date that will work (yes you may have to be patient) and not overlap with other meets. Anyway sounds like we need to do some investigating first.
