Hey, I know it's bleak looking and hopes and spirits are way down in the Gulf area, but I am a Hurricane Floyd flood survivor from North Carolina.
I was in my final year at East Carolina University when Floyd was on it's way. I was living alone at the time, moved everything upstairs and stayed at my advisors house for the storm. Wicked scary, with the eye passing right over us. (Quite strange to see the trees going one way, stopping completely, then going the other way). Afterwards, roads were washed out, gas prices skyrocketed and people were broken down. What was normally a 4 hour drive to Charlotte, turned into twice that. I had to go further east, ride a ferry, then take back roads to SC, then cross west, then north to my brother's place in Charlotte.
The point of this post is the following:
It's shi**y right now, but let's not call off the meet. It will take a long while to get back to any semblance of what was, but things will get back to up and running. Yes, the casino's have a HUGE hill to climb, so we can meet somewhere else, it doesn't have to be there. We're a very flexible group of people. Besides, whatever stage the Gulf is in when the time comes to meet, it can be a great break from whatever situation people are in.
As far as the RIGHT NOW, help is on it's way and it looks as things are starting to pull together a little. Chaos still reigns a bit, but if there is anything GSM needs, let us know, and I'm sure we can pull together too.
You and the entire Gulf Coast are in my prayers and thoughts!
