R56 Audio Install

Postby pyroMINIac » Wed Nov 18, 2009 12:06 am

Does anyone know of a quality car audio business who has worked on 2007+ R56 MINIs? I'm looking to put upgraded speakers in the stock locations, as well as amping it up. No subwoofer needed for me (those days have passed). [-X

I have (2) Alpine 4", (2) Alpine 6 1/2", and (2) Alpine 6"x9"... I won't be replacing the factory tweeters. I know what all it takes to get to the speakers (including the rears), and have already dropped in the (2) 4" in the front-doors. I mounted the (2) 6 1/2" speakers, as well, to see if they'd fit, but I don't have the power to run 'em yet (so I took those back out). After reading up on the subject, I know I can't handle the "wiring" process. #-o

Anyway, just looking for a clean, stealth install. Any ideas would be appreciated [-o<

I don't know how many R56 MINIs they have worked on, but Mad Mark's stereo shop in Sarasota has always been a go-to for folks in the car audio subculture. They have excellent prices on components and do very clean installs as well as custom fabrication, etc. for those looking to go the extra mile. I can recommend them without hesitation.

271 mi 4 hours 21 mins

FYI if you put an after market amp you'll need some special do-hickey to avoid overloading the computers.

That almost seems like a bad practical joke from MINI/BMW. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!?! What's next? Open the hood without the secret handshake, and the car catches fire?

If that's the case with MINI, it's probably on BMW's too. Looking for someone experienced in BMW aftermarket audio installs might be easier due to the larger customer pool.

You would be correct in that assumption my friend. Any high end audio shop should know what to do, just ask questions.

Thanks for the replies, gang. Keep 'em comin' if you know of any shops that can do this.

Over on that other site (NAM), all the fuss seems to be centered around the X9331 connector. Might this be the "do-hickey" you're thinking of, Mungo?

LOL That sounds like something from a Marvin Martian cartoon. X9331 Space modulator!
That's probably it, I break'em and the techs fix'em. I believe I first heard about that NAM and then asked a MINI Tech.

I get it Mazda-Boy  I looked up their website (after your first reply). They definitely have experience with a ton of "makes and models"...
