Steps to increase HP in 2 Gen Mini

Postby Zipy » Mon Mar 04, 2013 3:54 pm

Hi, I'm new to Sunshine Minis and posted this question elsewhere earlier; but this looks more appropriate. I have a 2011 Countryman S which I've chipped, lowered and replaced the air filter w/K&N performance replacement for the air box. I don't want to throw all kinds of money at my car; but, want input on the chronological steps I should take to increase HP. I don't track or race the car; but, like to feel the power when I put my foot into it. I'm looking for recommendations as to what to do next; based on what others have done and feel the upgrade was worth the investment. As I'm sure you know, it doesn't need to be a Countryman that you modified, although it would be most helpful knowing the parts are out there; that's been the biggest problem finding performance upgrades for the R60. I have an independant garage in Boynton Beach who does good work is reasonably priced and will install your parts. :motoring:

Not going to lie but, get another car if you want more power. These things are on lock down for any increase in power beyond basic bolt ons.
But, if you are like me and need to do it because you live for anything automotive, I would suggest getting an exhaust and a larger intercooler. Also if you can get the CEL turned off get a catless Downpipe.

Exactly. No one buys a MINI for speed. They are cute and fun, that's about it.

Not entirely true, We've got a customer who's S2000 was stolen and he bought a Mini specifically to make it faster then His S2000 and bought an older one so he would have money left over to mod it. He should make around 240whp (280hp at the crank) by the end of next week.

Yep you said it yourself an older one as in R53? So the op wants a 2nd gen to go faster. Since there is hardly a market for people to do so because the ecu is a lot more locked down it is harder and no buddy wants to screw with them

Not so sure about that. 240whp and 2500lbs. That's with a good launch a low 13 second 1/4 mile pass at 105-106mph. Not sure your gonna find a New Sub $25k car that will do that stock. Focus ST, Mazdaspeed 3, and V-6 mustang (probably fastest cars for under $25k) all run in the 14's and don't break 100 mph in the 1/4 mile.

I'd pretty well stop at a modest custom tune on the Turbo motors. The Non-JCW's can see over 200whp and the JCW's upwards of 220whp and keep the reliability pretty good. That still makes em pretty quick and the torque makes them feel faster then they are.

LOL as you said!! 105-106 trap speed is flying!! I have managed to put a few V8 cars away.. lol but I cheat!! r53 and the bottle!!

Water-Meth will add power to the r56!!
Exhaust
and of course the cylinder Head, but that is getting deeper than just bolt ons.

OP what also is hurting you is that the N!8 that comes in the refresh of the r56 and the r60 is on lock down with the ECU so tuning is very difficult.

Seeing as there really wasn't much straights to really open up that 400 HP... It is a total credit to YOUR driving expertise and experience!! Freaking great!!

Thank you, Rev limit in 2nd is somewhere around 83 mph and I did see just shy of 80 mph on the way back out of the turn around.

It's disapointing, not one single mini there other then mine. Use to be loads of Mini's at Autox's (Stock class one) back when they were the car to have in H-Stock, D-stock and G-stock. But not one there yesterday. Even a Fiat Abarth was there.

Nice run and nice car - I still LOVE my R53 :) Too bad those days are long gone and you can't do any of that with the 20011 this thread is about :)

That is because people don't by them to race they by them because they are cute and various other reasons that make no sense.

I think that MINI's are a good balance of speed, performance, fun, cool styling, great community of owners, and not conforming to all the other cars that try to compete. There is nothing like a MINI on the road for any price.

I hope they would be as comfortable as they look,I was afraid that for a long heighted man it would be quite uncomfortable for them to adjust but later i found out that they are very comfortable from inside too.
