New 2012 Clubman - slow throttle response from idle

Postby kenrmg » Mon Aug 13, 2012 7:51 pm

I have had my new clubman for about 2 weeks now, and really enjoy it. However I've noticed that there is a delay between when I push the throttle and when the car GOES!

I called my dealer who said "Have you ever driven a mini before? thats normal!"

I've search around and have read only a few comments about this. Any advice?

I've got an appointment with the service manager tomorrow to do a test drive of my car and the loaner car.

Don't take this question as an insult, because it is an honest question. Have you driven a car with drive-by-wire throttle before? They all seem to suffer from a little bit of lag compared to a good old fashioned cabled throttle. All 3 of my MINIs have suffered from a tiny throttle lag. You just learn to compensate for it.

There are also aftermarket modules that essentially electronically increase throttle response, like the Sprint Booster. Personally, for $300, I figure it's a lot cheaper to learn to press the throttle a little faster, a little further. Just re-train your right foot.

I have driven several drive by wire cars before but not for long (a week or so at a time). So I guess I'm not really used to it.

Well, people do speak highly of the Sprint Booster. I'd say try to re-train your right foot to compensate for the lag and if that doesn't work, then think about the booster.

So when you stomp on the throttle in Neutral, how long does it take for the engine to spool up? When I stomp on mine, about a quarter of a second later the RPMs start increasing. They don't increase as fast as they should IMO, but I've lived with it for over 170,000 miles now.

Exactly how is yours operating?

My clubman (just a cooper) was slow to respond and way differnt response than my wife's 2012 S which I notice hardly at all. one of the reasons I've moved on from my clubby.

Does installing a Sprint Booster invalidate factory warranty?
