out of work for a while - wish me luck

Postby JBKone » Thu Feb 24, 2011 5:03 pm

Yeah, being a contractor is an iffy proposition. The contract I was working on ran out of money, so I basically was told to go home until more money came. It's been about 2 weeks now. My vacation is used up. Now I'm living income-less. :-( I'm a bit concerned, but not too much so: my boss thinks we'll have more work in a few weeks, but there are no guarantees. Wish me luck!

Guess I'll start looking for another job in a few weeks. Anyone need their lawn mowed?

If you know how to test a T1, T3, or Optical circuit, I might be able to get you a contract job & free rent in Tampa to hold you over. Not betting on that being the case, though.

Thanks for the well wishes guys! right now I'm just hangin' out. If boss doesn't have a good lead in a couple of weeks I'll prob have to dust off that resume. I hate job hunting :barf:

Wow, that sucks. Hope work comes thru sooner than later. Being in construction I feel your pain. Of course I can always become a professional spellchecker if things get really bad

Opps....I posted this yesterday while testing out a new members account and forgot to switch back to my name :-s

If anyone is looking for Telecommunications work and believe you have or can obtain a security clearance, keep an eye on my company's website http://www.vt-group.com. Our parent company VT Group is fairly diverse, everything from logistics to UAVs. We have offices in Jacksonville, Pensacola, and other US cities. We have recently started up a small office in Tampa centering on heathcare (nurse call, patient monitoring, networking, etc) but most of that work will be travel. We are not always the highest paying but once hired on they do their best to keep us employed.

Our division here in Jacksonville falls under Integrated Solutions. We do mostly comms and electronics for the government and military. In Jacksonville we concentrate on two areas: OSP/ISP and Navy Shipboard Comms. OSP/ISP does a lot of work at local bases and has some travel oppertunities mostly to the middle east or Afghanistan. The shipboard crews work mostly out of Mayport Naval Station w/ some travel and some long hours.

Travel is never mandatory but sometimes if local work is slow (like now) it might be the only choice.

If anyone is interested or wants more information just drop me a note.
