WIPER BLADES

Postby captbj » Mon Sep 12, 2016 10:59 am

been a bit of discussion over in FB world of troubles finding wiper blades that fit the 'new style' arms.

Note that for most models the arm changed from the hook style to a 'Top-Lock' in the 2012 to 2013 time frame. For a time the new style was hard to find and even today 'old stock' at an auto part store may mean the new style adapter is not in the package. But major wiper makers DO have the correct blades. PIAA and BOSCH in particular are available.

At this link from MINIMANIA is a table showing which wiper blade you need for any MINI model R or F

I still think they should have just made the new OEM wiper assemblies accept standard replacement inserts without a hassle, regardless of what type of connector they use.

The one thing that has always rubbed me the wrong way about MINI- the Apple factor- "Your way is invalid. You will do it our way." This is the reason I use PC and Android, and the reason my next car will burn rice.

But again, thanks for the info. (I was the creep who complained on Facebook.)

MINI does not design wiper blades

MINI goes to suppliers and says we need something this size. They get shown examples and decide which to buy ....

MINI does not make paint either ... or glass .... or brakes .... or wheels ....

everything is made by someone else, sold to MINI who puts the pieces together .....

so blame BOSCH, PIAA and ANCO

Frankly, I don't give a warm rat fart who designed the blades. The end caps don't appear to come off, rendering me unable to use blade inserts. Maybe they do come off, and mine are just flawed. Pliers and vise grips both failed. But either way, if Bosch, PIAA, or anyone else is selling wiper blades and MINI is their customer, MINI is ultimately responsible for the design choices. If they see a part that is suboptimally designed, they should demand something better.

And my reference to MINI's Apple factor goes FAR beyond parts design, but I won't elaborate here, as there's no point.
