MINI on the Mack

Postby J3kidford » Mon May 13, 2013 7:17 pm

Join MINI of Grand Rapids and MINI motorists from all over the country as we attempt to break the Guinness Book World Record for the Largest Parade of MINIs at MINI on the Mack.

MINI on the Mack will take place on Saturday, August 3rd and will culminate with a mass crossing of the Mackinac Bridge.

More details will become available soon.

Check back often and don't forget to invite every MINI owner you can find so we can break the record of 1,450 MINIs!

Crossing the Mackinac Bridge in a never ending line of MINIs.......VERY COOL!!!

I really wish this was better organized.
I want to go even though I don't think we will break the record.
This is my homeland and I haven't crossed to the U.P. in over 6 years. I would love to take some extra time and visit Family and introduce Andrea to the backwards hill people I'm somehow related to out in the sticks of northern Michigan.

If anyone from SSM starts making plans please post so we can decide if it works with us.

I have made the drive from Florida to Michigan many times in my life and know of some cool stops along the way.
Kalmazoo has plenty to offer on the way to Grand Rapids. Bells Brewery, the home of Greensky Bluegrass.
Grand Rapids has a 100 foot Loch Ness Monster floating sculpture.
As a child my favorite was to visit the Paul Bunyan statue ( out of the way from the event but a good detour on the way back) http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/ ... n_2646.jpg

No stops in Saginaw please! I got stuck overnight in the Saginaw airport in October and have no desire to go back for a long time.

I am really hoping to go. And I'd love to see Paul Bunyon!!! I'm all about cool, offbeat places! Kelly wants to go to, in her MINI.

What days would everyone want to plan for?
Trying to figure it out ASAP so I can put it in for vacation. I can always give the days back if I don't go but would like to get it scheduled at work just in case.
I was thinking at least take Thursday 8/1 and leave. Stay somewhere around Knoxville, TN Friday 8/2. Arrive in Grand Rapids, MI Friday and stay the night then do the event on Saturday 8/3. Guessing we will stay in Michigan that night and leave Sunday 8/4. Either drive all the way through (which I've done many times but is a long drive or stay somewhere Sunday and finish the trip Monday 8/5.

That would only require me to take 3 days off of work(if we stop for the night on the way back).

I would like to stay longer and can afford the time off but wanted to get a feeling from everyone else.

I was thinking of leaving Thursday, also. But am willing to take an extra day on the way back to see stuff. So, like Thursday to Tuesday. But at this point I'm still open.

I may be able to go depending on how my business is going. Seeing tons of MINIs driving across the bridge would be really cool. ;)b

I'm reviving this thread. If anyone wants to go I'm heading up August 1st. Also, I'm gonna make a side trip to Canada....just because I can. :-) It's only an hour away. I'll also (hopefully) be seeing 4 of the 5 Great Lakes. Hotels are filling up fast. PM me if you want hotel info. I'm excited!!

For those of you who may not have heard, we did not break the Guinness World Record. However, we did have 848 MINIs, which is the largest gathering of MINIs in one place in the US in the 11 years that MINI USA has been here! And we also set a new Guinness World Record for the largest car horn ensemble when we all played "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple on our MINIs. Here are some of my pics from MINI on the Mack with a link at the bottom to more.

The locals lined the streets in St. Ignace and even along the interstate in Mackinaw City to watch our parade go by.

Afterwards we made a side trip up to Canada. I have an International MINI now!
