MSSD '09 - October 23-25 - MINIs Slay the Sleeping Dragon

Postby paul_ » Mon Aug 31, 2009 9:24 am

Hello all,

I wanted to announce that Tar-Heels are hosting MINIs Slay the Sleeping Dragon this October. I went to my first MOTD this spring, and unsurprisingly, I can't wait to go back! Furthermore, I'm now in college, so MOTD is not an option next spring. So seeing this trip exist is very much a great thing.

So, anyone up for a road trip? I'll be leaving on Friday, October 23 from Florida Tech (in Melbourne) at roughly 2:00-2:30, and driving through the night to get to Fontana. I will try to get a cabin in Fontana Village, but I can heartily recommend the Tuskegee Motel, about 15 minutes away, as a good place to stay, and cheap, too ($45/night-ish, if I remember correctly from MOTD. I will be driving back Sunday afternoon/night - a college student has to go to class Monday morning :(

If you are considering going, reply here and you can also shoot me a PM or IM me if you have more questions. If I have left anything major out, I will edit the OP for easy reading.

Hope to see you guys there!

-Paul

If all stays as it is, I will be going this year!! \:D/
I have a job in Atlanta the week before MSSD, so if it doesn't fall through, I will be there with my Dad. He caught the Dragon bug this spring and can't wait to get back.
Hope to see some of you there.

I just might do this after all. My boss just offered to let me work 4 days (10 hours each) that week (Oct. 19-22). OK, it was more like a mandate because of some nonsense "employee appreciation" activities that he wants the night shift to attend during the day on 10/22, but still... this could at least be a side benefit.

I'll know in a few days if I can get that Monday off. If so, I think I might make the drive up & enjoy the cool, crisp Autumn air. And put my new Go Pro Hero camera thru its paces!!!

Anyone wanna split costs on a cabin or lodge room?

I have to pass this year. Too many events, not enough days off. I'd retire but then wouldn't have enough money to do the events...sucks beans, eh!

Spoke with Fontana, and the outlook is grim. They have no cabins left, and the only rooms available are the honeymoon suite and poolside cabana rooms. Both are far too expensive for my tastes.

So, I repeat my question... anyone got a cabin to share?

I didn't see a MSSD forum on NAM, but I did join Tar Heel Minis' site & post a request there as well. If I don't find anything in a week or so, I'll see if the Microtel or some such place has room. I'm just really partial to Fontana. Never stayed anywhere else up there.

That's already happening. I haven't told them about the videos I made through the peep hole at the Embassy Suites during MM5. 8-[
